PRS Foundation and Wales Arts International team up to create new international funding opportunities for Welsh music creators

  • PRS Foundation’s International Showcase Fund welcome partnership with Wales Arts International to support Welsh music export
  • Welsh artist Astroid Boys receive funds to perform at Eurosonic Noorderslag, one of Europe’s largest industry festivals

PRS Foundation, the UK’s leading charitable funder of new music and talent development, announces today that Wales Arts International will officially partner on the International Showcase Fund in 2018, enabling Welsh music creators to receive support from this longstanding industry fund.

This new partnership will enable talented Wales based artists and songwriters to be part of the fund which includes advice and guidance from UK partners as well as financial support to travel and perform at overseas showcasing events enabling them to make the most of international opportunities.

The investment in the International Showcase Fund partnership by Arts Council of Wales through its international arm Wales Arts International, follows on from a successful pilot partnership on the fund in 2017 to support Welsh artists to perform at SXSW in Austin, Texas, USA.  This new partnership expands opportunities for Welsh artists who can now apply for funding to all eligible overseas showcases (find out more here).

The first Welsh artist to benefit from this new partnership is Astroid Boys who are being supported to perform at this week’s Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen, Netherlands alongside supported English and Scottish artists, Nilüfer Yanya, Yxng Bane, Chelou, Fenne Lily, Freya Ridings, George FitzGerald, Hakeem Baker, Housewives, IDER and Keir.

The International Showcase Fund is run by PRS Foundation in partnership with Department for International Trade, Arts Council England, British Underground, Musicians’ Union and more recently Creative Scotland, PPL and PledgeMusic. It offers support for artists to take their first steps into international territories by enabling them to perform at key showcasing festivals and conferences such as Canadian Music Week, SXSW, Reeperbahn, Zandari Festival, Womex, Eurosonic, Jazzahead and Mutek which attract thousands of people working in the music industry from every corner of the globe.

In the fund’s most recent report spanning 2013-16, 89% of supported artists returned with tangible business outcomes and every £1 invested by the International Showcase Fund generated an additional £8.90 in revenues for the supported artist. Mae Sefydliad PRS, prif ariannwr elusennol gwaith i ddatblygu cerddoriaeth a thalent newydd ym Mhrydain, wedi cyhoeddi heddiw y bydd Celfyddydau Rhyngwladol Cymru yn bartner swyddogol i’r  Gronfa Arddangos Ryngwladol  yn 2018, gan alluogi pobl sy’n creu cerddoriaeth yng Nghymru i gael cymorth gan y gronfa hirsefydlog hon yn y diwydiant.

Bydd y bartneriaeth newydd hon yn caniatáu i artistiaid a chyfansoddwyr caneuon dawnus o Gymru elwa ar y gronfa, sy’n cynnwys cyngor ac arweiniad gan bartneriaid ym Mhrydain, yn ogystal â chymorth ariannol i’w cynorthwyo i fanteisio ar gyfleoedd rhyngwladol trwy deithio a pherfformio mewn achlysuron arddangos dramor.

Mae buddsoddiad Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru ym mhartneriaeth y Gronfa Arddangos Ryngwladol trwy ei gangen ryngwladol, Celfyddydau Cymru Rhyngwladol, yn dilyn partneriaeth beilot lwyddiannus yn y gronfa yn 2017, a gynorthwyodd artistiaid Cymreig i berfformio yn SXSW yn Austin, Texas, UDA.  Mae’r bartneriaeth newydd hon yn ehangu’r cyfleoedd sydd ar gael i artistiaid Cymreig am y bydd yn galluogi iddynt wneud cais am gyllid i berfformio mewn sioeau arddangos tramor cymwys (ceir rhagor o fanylion yma).
