Battersea Arts Centre: Women Make Music

How to Make Two Outfits Out of One is a two-woman experimental chamber opera inspired by the life and work of Franco-American artist, socialite and feminist Niki de Saint Phalle.

Co-created and performed by Jane Dickson (composer, sound artist) and Nic Chalmers (librettist, performance artist) the work invites the audience inside de Saint Phalle’s creative world and seeks to deconstruct the apparatus of opera.

Dickson & Chalmers is a collaborative duo that seeks to unpick and resize their relationship to the sonic and visual world, while exploring process, transformation, negation and gender: the points at which their practices converge. Both artists are committed to challenging the systems of production in which they operate
