Momentum Music Fund… the story so far – Industry Panel

Friday 22 May 2015 at 1.45pm

As PRS for Music Foundation and Arts Council England celebrate two hugely successful years of the Momentum Music Fund, this panel looks at how much of an impact support has already had, featuring case studies from artists and managers. This fund for emerging talent offers grants of between £5,000 and £15,000 to break through to the next level of their careers. Hear how funded artists have gone on to enjoy huge success and, following a recent announcement to extend the programme, how artists and their representatives can benefit in the future.

With guests: Laura Bettison (FEMME), Andy Rossiter (Artist Manager), Joe Frankland (PRS for Music Foundation), Becky Hawley (Stealing Sheep). Moderated by Mike Walsh (XFM)

Entry to the panel is available for all delegates.

The Momentum Music Fund is a partnership between PRS for Music Foundation and Arts Council England.  Managed by PRS for Music Foundation, the Momentum Music fund awards grants of £5,000-£15,000 using funding from Arts Council England.

Attaque

What do you do when it looks like you’re finally realising your life’s dream of making it in techno; when you’re at long last turning up on the playlists of the scene’s biggest DJs and being whisked to all corners of the globe to play to packed-out, rapturous dancefloors? For Colchester based electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist Dominic Gentry aka Attaque it was the moment to hang up the headphones and make a beautiful electronica record with breathtaking songs, ethereal textures, intelligent melodies and not a single club track in sight.

FEMME

FEMME is a onewoman creative powerhouse who incorporates music, art, film and fashion into a compelling artpop package. Having come to prominence after fronting Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich’s Ultraísta supergroup, an adventure that saw her perform on David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon, support Flying Lotus, and be remixed by Four Tet, Matthew Herbert and David Lynch, she’s now best known for her sparky and sassy solo work, which is equally informed by ’60s girl groups, MIA, Debbie Harry and Cindy Sherman.

LoneLady

LoneLady is Julie Campbell, and vice versa – there is little artifice involved, but rather a symbiosis between art and creator that manifests itself in the kind of poetic, deeply personal and unapologetic work that becomes timeless music.

All We Are

Three piece, Liverpool-based All We Are write pop arrangements and house them within a psych-tinged, melancholic world. Self-described as sounding like ‘the Bee Gees on diazepam’, All We Are’s slow rhythmic shuffles, pop harmonies and lovelorn lyrics succinctly captures a universal quality to which everyone can relate. The trio, made up of a Norwegian (Guro Gikling), an Irishman (Richard O’Flynn) and a Brazilian (Luis Santos), met whilst studying in Liverpool two years ago, and have since gone on to become a cornerstone of the city’s music scene.
