Steve Reid Innovation Award showcase at The Forge, Camden London 26th November 2015

 

PRS for Music Foundation and the Steve Reid Foundation will host the Steve Reid Innovation Award recipients, Lady Vendredi, Moses Boyd, Sarathy Korwar and Hector Plimmer who will each perform at The Forge, in London’s Camden Town on Thursday 26th November 2015.

Lady Vendredi is the Neo-Punk Blaxploitation alter-ego of performer and producer Nwando Ebizie. Combining traditional Haitian rhythms and Global Bass, to create a secular ecstatic experience, fired by the power of animality, soaked in punk spirit and driven by an evangelical desire to dance. Lady Vendredi received support for the recording and release of her EP.

Moses Boyd is a drummer, composer, producer and electronic musician from Catford, South London.  Moses Began playing the drums at 14 and was playing professionally by age 17. Largely self-taught has worked the likes of Lonnie Liston smith, Gilles Peterson, Kwabs, Jimmy Napes, Peter Edwards and many more. Winner of the Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2014 Moses leads his own ensemble, The Exodus as well as performing his solo project, ‘Solo Exodus’ which fuses electronic sounds and improvised jazz elements from just electronics and drums. Moses received support to record and soon release his debut album.

Hector Plimmer blends a mixture of samples, recordings & synthesisers to create organic, unpolished sounds. His music is often largely focused on different percussive & rhythmic elements combining to result in complex patterns. Hector received support to complete the production of his concept EP.

Sarathy Korwar is a percussionist/composer born in the US, raised in India and now based in London. Trained as a classical tabla player and drummer, Sarathy composes and performs music that builds on intuition and spontaneity. His latest project ‘Day To Day’ features the music of the Sidi community in India and uses their music as a point of departure to further improvisations. Sarathy received support to complete the recording of the ‘Day To Day’ album.

The Steve Reid Innovation Award is a partnership between PRS for Music Foundation and the Steve Reid Foundation which offers vital support to unsigned artists pushing musical boundaries. The winners each received talent development bursaries and mentoring from Steve Reid Foundation trustees which include pioneering artists Gilles Peterson, Four Tet, Theo Parrish, Floating Points, RocketnumberNine, Emanative and Charlie Dark.
