4 Girls 4 Harps: Women Make Music

For:

Tetra, commissioned by 4 Girls 4 Harps; composed by four female composers.

2015 will be 4 Girls 4 Harps’ 15th Anniversary as a group. Since our conception, we have played live on BBC Radio 3, been broadcast on Classic FM and BBC Radio 2, and been invited to perform in prestigious venues such as St George’s Bristol, King’s Place, London and the World Harp Congress in Dublin.

To celebrate our landmark birthday we have commissioned a substantial new work, Tetra, for harp quartet. A four movement piece by four female composers performed on four harps by four female harpists. Each movement takes as its musical base the opening motif from Henriette Renié’s solo harp piece Légende. In addition, each movement is inspired by a famous woman from history chosen from suggestions submitted by our audience and fans.

We will be performing Tetra in concerts across the country in a programme carefully chosen to complement the new piece. We will be performing an arrangement of Légende by Renié to show the original music before it was entwined in our commission, and also an arrangement of La Chasse by pioneering woman composer Sophia Corri. The remainder of the programme is filled with some of our favourite arrangements and pieces from the last few years, including audience favourites by Rachmaninov and Shostakovich.
