Bath International Music Festival brings leading international performers to Bath every year to inspire and entertain audiences of all ages and tastes. The festival champions diversity and collaboration, and celebrates the fusion of the traditional and the contemporary.
With over 50 events and 11,000 audience members in 2011, the festival reaches out to all members of the community. Party in the City reached an estimated audience of more than 20,000 – an exuberant celebration of music making across the genres: from chamber recitals and choirs to street performers and rock bands, presented in 26 venues and parks across Bath City Centre.
The 2011 programme incorporated a number of new commissions from the four new commissions for Kathryn Tickell, to a tribute to Nina Simone by the young jazz singer and cellist, Ayanna Witter-Johnson. We also commissioned percussionist Adriano Adewale to create music with 12 schools, culminating in a performance in Bath Abbey. In addition, we created several new collaborations and events, such as a rare performance of Stravinsky’s Les Noces, and a focus on the work of Cornelius Cardew, including a performance of The Great Learning, mounted in 7 historic venues across Bath.
