Roberto David Rusconi: The Composers’ Fund
London-based composer and sound designer Roberto David Rusconi is a visionary producer and creator focused on new immersive trans-disciplinary music for dance, theatre and art’s galleries. His practise is informed by shamanism, ritualistic practices, music embodiment and 3D sound projection. With a PhD awarded at Kings College London and prestigious fellowships, residencies and commissions he has been supported by Arts Council England, The Bliss Trust, The British Council, Ernst Von Siemens, PRS among many others. Rusconi has been invited to represent UK at Wien Modern, La Biennale di Venezia and Ultraschall Festival Berlin. With a forthcoming opera, Dionysos rising, a ballet, Kirke – The first witch and an immersive installation, Incanti (all due by 2018/9), he is keen on experimenting with co-creative process for a new more critical and reactive audience. Last year, he collaborated on two new R&D creations for Rambert dance, and the critically acclaimed Calyx commissioned by Phoenix Dance Theatre. His solo, ensemble and orchestral work is published by Verlag Neue Musik Berlin and has been performed by Klangforum Wien, Phace, OENM Salzburg, Contrechamps, Minguet, JACK, Amar and Kairos quartets. He produces music for film, TV series and documentaries under many aliases.
The funding will support part of the commission fee in the creation of work KIRKE, a music dance theatre work sixty minutes long in collaboration with Ensemble Proton and Phoenix Dance Theatre. The project engages the audience in a 3D immersive surround soundscape with rituals and ceremonial practices informed by research on shamanism, witchcraft, possession, trance and mythology. Choreographer S. Watson and S. Monin will highlight the production pushing forward a portrait of the woman as holy mother and devilish witch, goddess, mother and lover seen across multicultural ancestral practices. The production will see its premier in 2018 /2019 in Leeds, Bern and replicas in UK and than EU.
