Lady From The Sea
The Lady From The Sea is an opera composed by the Scottish composer Craig Armstrong and was originally a co-production with Scottish Opera and Edinburgh International Festival. It was premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2012, winning the Herald Angel Award. The libretto is by the Scottish writer Zoe Strachan and was directed by Harry Fehr. Designed by Yannis Thavoris, conducted by Derek Clark with video design by Finn Ross and movement direction by Kally Lloyd-Jones and with the dramaturg, Michael McCarthy.
The opera is based on Ibsen’s work of the same title, a beautiful and haunting love story. It is written for a chamber orchestra and eight voices, has a running time of approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and is sung in English.
This proposal would mean recording an award winning opera in a very high quality audio production and would give all the artists involved in the performances the chance to revisit and develop their work after the initial performance run. Importantly it gives the time and talent invested so intensely over the original two year creation period, a longevity and furtherance that couldn’t exist without the recording both in terms of promotion and the availability for anybody to be able to listen to the work.
In summary, we want to maintain the high standard of the original production with Scottish Opera and add to this the best recording team possible to capture The Lady From The Sea.
