Emma Johnson: The Open Fund for Organisations

For:

Recording of exciting new jazz/classical works for clarinet and orchestra

Clarinettist Emma Johnson will record with the BBC Concert Orchestra a selection of exciting new concertos, all of which have been dedicated to her by English composers: Sir John Dankworth’s lyrical and jazz inspired clarinet work spans musical styles from reggae to waltz and is colourfully orchestrated. Its wit and melodiousness sit well with the funky sounds of Durham composer, Will Todd’s, Jazz Concerto which has a more contemporary yet nevertheless popular feel. Stephen Barlow’s spine tingling Nocturne and Paul Reade’s Victorian Kitchen Garden complete the line up on this new recording which will allow listeners to encounter some really appealing new British music and to widen their appreciation of the clarinet as a solo instrument. The independent record label, Nimbus plan to release the CD in 2016.
