Flux trio: Women Make Music
flux brings together three performer¬/composers who are known for their unique approaches to performance and their use of innovative instrumentation, both acoustic and electronic. This collaboration will combine their diverse skills, which include building digital instruments, pioneering novel technologies, improvisation techniques, and live electronic treatment of acoustic sounds. They will develop, perform, and record a new work in order to inspire future musicians and audiences about contemporary music and to motivate other female artists to explore experimental and technology-influenced practices.
Lauren Sarah Hayes [hybrid analogue/digital electronics] is a composer/performer/sonic artist who specialises in creating bespoke musical performances by exploring unique spaces and new technologies. Her music lies between contemporary classical, free improvisation, electronic dance music, noise and jazz. She is associate of the New Radiophonic Workshop.
Xenia Pestova [piano, toy piano, keyboards] is a pianist and improviser with an unusual and colourful profile. As a dedicated promoter of new music, she has commissioned, premiered, recorded and broadcast numerous works. CDs include ‘Shadow Piano’ on Innova and John Cage: ‘Works for Two Keyboards’ for Naxos. She is a Schoenhut Toy Piano Concert Artist.
Franziska Schroeder [saxophones] is an improvisor interested in experimental music and free improvisation. Franziska has performed with many international musicians including Joan La Barbara, Pauline Oliveros, Stelarc, the Avatar Orchestra, and Evan Parker. She has published several CDs (Creative Source, SLAM and pfmentum label).
