J-Night is now the leading promoter in East Yorkshire of high quality world jazz and works with major venues to present a series of gigs across the region of York, East Riding, Hull and beyond.

We produce the Hull Jazz Festival which this year celebrates its 21st anniversary and since 2009 have developed a partnership with the Hull Freedom Festival, a major cultural showcase for Hull, which now attracts over 75,000 people over 4 days in September.

The PRSF award will enable us to establish a monthly home for high quality contemporary jazz from March through to November each year in the Hull Truck Studio that will join up our 3 annual Jazz Weekends in July (indoors), September (outdoors) and November (indoors). We would like support for this new initiative to increase the availability and range of jazz on offer in Hull. We begin with Christine Tobin’s Sailing to Byzantium on 24 November 2013.

We wish to produce high quality programmes and build relationships with artists who create repertoires of new work. We expect these artists to reflect a diverse range of musical and cultural influences in creating their music. This enables J-Night to develop artistic programmes that challenge us, as producers, and attracts an attentive audience who relish the diverse work this generation of jazz artists create. We wish to develop a relationship with artists whose work we respect and who enjoy working with us. This creates the environment to experience new music of the highest quality.
