James Blake was raised in Enfield, north London. At six, James began to learn the piano and in his teens he would improvise and practise singing and play along to Motown and soul records. The turning point came when James visited the London club night FWD. The experience spurred him into producing and he released his first single, ‘Air and Lack Thereof’, in 2009 on the Hemlock label which was followed by five singles this year. Until recently his key tracks featured heavily edited vocal samples but on his cover of Feist’s ‘Limit to Your Love’ he sings the song. ‘Limit To Your Love’ is also the first single from his debut album, due out in February 2011.
James has been DJing throughout the UK/EU since 2009 but has only recently started performing live. Although it’s early the level of interest in his music and the excitement surrounding his first few performances have sparked a busy UK/EU live schedule throughout Feb/Mar/Apr/May which will continue through summer festival season and onwards.
The level of interest in both UK music and media is very high, he has record/publishing deals and booking agents in both UK and North America, and there’s huge interest domestically and internationally from promoters.
