Jon Opstad is a London-based composer working in a range of contexts including concert music and music for film and television. He graduated with a BA in Music from Cambridge University in 2005 and an MA in Composing for Film & Television from the National Film & Television School in 2009. Recent work includes his score for the White Bear episode of Channel 4’s Black Mirror drama series, and a commission for solo cello for the 2013 Presteigne Festival.

“My Composer Bursary award is to support the recording of a new composition project, consisting of entirely new work. Half of this material will be for string quintet instrumentation, while the other half will add prepared piano, electric guitar and electro-acoustic elements to this to expand the timbral palette. This is an important project to me, which I am excited about creating, and I am very grateful to the Bliss Trust and PRS for Music Foundation for the award of the Composer Bursary, which is making this recording possible.”
