LCO draws together London’s brightest young talent to explore and promote new music to an increasingly wide audience, through dynamic performances and a fresh approach to music-making.

The commissioning of new music is central to LCO’s activities. This year we are collaborating with composers Shiva Feshareki, Mica Levi and CHAINES, who will be working closely with our principal players and sound designers, culminating in a first performance at Ron Arad’s ‘Curtain Call’ in the Roundhouse Main Space in August. 2016/17 will also see the continuation of the LCO Soloists’ ‘Hub Sessions’, programmed by co-Artistic Directors Robert Ames and Hugh Brunt, placing a ‘Call for Scores’ initiative at its heart. This season will see LCO develop new partnerships in London and across the UK, create innovative collaborations and expand the reach of the orchestra’s music and network of emerging artists and young performers.

Shiva Feshareki is a composer, DJ/Turntablist working closely with the physicality of sound. Shiva works mainly as a collaborative composer and uses deep improvisation, explorations into different worlds, or chance events to create her collaborative teams.

Mica Levi composed the soundtrack to ‘Under the Skin’, directed by Jonathan Glazer and starring Scarlett Johansson, released in 2014. She was nominated for multiple awards including the 2015 BAFTA Award for Best Film Music.

LCO first worked with CHAINES in 2015, when LCO Soloists performed her new work ‘I Found This’ at the inaugural Hub Sessions at the Roundhouse. Having written for many ensembles, CHAINES now works primarily with electronic media.
