Liz Liew: Women Make Music

SNAPSHOTS is a live music and dance performance which encapsulates universal moments in life told through a fusion dance form and an evocative live original soundtrack on piano, violin and Chinese instrumentation and video imagery.

Composed & performed by Liz Liew, collaborating with choreographer & dancer Yuyu Rau audiences will be taken on an evocative visual and aural journey through a series of flashbacks on the themes of childhood innocence, first love, family bereavement, and birth of a first child punctuated with visuals by Suki Mok.

The soundtrack is part filmic, with nods to Impressionist composers, mixed with melodies inspired from Liew’s Chinese background. Scored mostly for the piano with the addition of the violin and vocals, Liew is joined live by Dennis Lee on Chinese flute (xiao) and Chinese zither (guzheng). Rau brings to life the stories of each snapshot, using a blend of dance styles including contemporary dance influenced by Chinese Classical Dance.  The music from Snapshots was released in February 2014 and is out now Stella Polaris Recordings.
