ESKA: Momentum

ESKA has been a highly regarded and sort-after collaborator for over a decade featuring on over 150 released titles. She finally moved out of the shadows by creating her own Earthling label in order to tell her musical story – by the time she was ready to tell it, it felt like the world had already made up it’s mind what it might be.

Here is a singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist whose voice and ideas are too big for just one music category to contain. Successfully navigating her own path creatively, ESKA’s initial Earthling release was the critically acclaimed Gatekeeper EP in 2013, a surprising departure from sounds of past collaborations, fusing elements of folk, psychedlia, blues and electronica. ESKA’s self-produced debut solo album followed in 2015, receiving critical acclaim ; hailed as ‘genre-busting’, ‘a mind-bending gem’ and awarded a BBC Mercury Music Prize ‘Album of the Year’.

ESKA’s restless inventiveness will continue to be explored further on her sophomore album and in her live performances which have become legendary showcases for this inimitable artist.

The Momentum Music Fund is contributing towards the recording costs of ESKA’s 2nd album and tour support. Sustaining momentum by completing a new body of work ready for release in 2017 and being able to take up new performance opportunities will be critical in helping ESKA establish a longer term solo career.
