“Music-loving dog and cat Stan and Mabel are off to find their neighbour who has gone to judge ‘The Best Orchestra in the World’ competition. Little do they know, they will be forming an amazing animal orchestra of their own!”

This innovative and inspiring project is all about the power of music to bring people together, the thrill of taking part in something new and exciting, and being transported to new places. Stan and Mabel will be composed by Music in the Round’s BASCA award-winning Children’s Composer in Residence, Paul Rissmann, and children from Sheffield schools, and will then tour the UK engaging nearly 10,000 people with an accompanying workshop programme and free participation pack.

The story, with highly-engaging audience participation, is performed alongside brilliantly vibrant illustrations from the book including a bassoon-playing horse, a piano-playing cow and a cat conductor. The concert is an ideal first introduction to live classical music for children age 3+ and their grown ups with companion pieces by composers including Mozart, Delibes, Wagner and John Williams.

The members of Ensemble 360 and narrator Polly Ives are outstanding musicians collectively and individually. They perform with leading orchestras worldwide, play to the highest standard as a group, and have been widely praised for their commitment to education and outreach work. Music in the Round is well-known for its imaginative programming, winning the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society award for Chamber Music and Song 2012, and the BASCA award for 2011’s The Chimpanzees of Happytown.
