Residency Project 10 Year Anniversary Commissions

Next year sees the 10-year anniversary of the Enterprise Music Scotland Residency Project, a professional-development programme which annually commissions new work by an outstanding Scottish/Scottish based composer. To celebrate, we have commissioned two composers for two special projects in 2017 which reference the past and future of the Residency Project.

Stuart MacRae – This commission will feature current Residency Project Ensemble – Alison McNeill (voice) and Sasha Savaloni (guitar), and will explore ideas of pilgrimage, taking inspiration from Sasha‘s Iranian heritage and Alison‘s Scottish heritage. The creative output will be influenced by Persian poetry and Scots/Gaelic poetry and song, celebrating the two cultures’ music, language and writing.

Colin Broom – We will commission Colin to write a work for amplified string quartet. Colin will work collaboratively with a visual/film artist exploring concepts of Time/Memory. The performance programme will also feature work for string quartet previously commissioned via the Residency Project from David Fennessy (2008) and Anna Meredith (2013). All works will be performed by Residency Project Ensemble alumni, Maxwell Quartet.
