Mara Carlyle: The Open Fund for Music Creators

For:

Recording of New Album

This project will enable Mara Carlyle to record, produce, mix and master her third album – her first since 2011’s ‘Floreat’ – in collaboration with artist, musician and hip-hop producer Paul White. Paul has worked with artists including Danny Brown and Jamie Woon, and is one half of ‘Golden Rules’ – whose debut album ‘Golden Ticket’ was released to critical acclaim in 2015. Funding provided by the PRS Foundation will enable Mara and Paul to experiment, create and produce a truly unique album of new, exciting music.

Mara has been making music for many years, performing with Plaid and Matthew Herbert in the early noughties before releasing the first of two critically acclaimed albums – ‘The Lovely’ – on Accidental Records in 2004. ‘Pianni’ from this album was used as the soundtrack for an IKEA advert (where 100 cats take over the Wembley store) in 2010.

Since 2011, she has worked with a variety of artists including Liam Byrne and James McVinnie, collaborated with Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, MD-ed the opening night of James Lavelle’s 2014 Meltdown Festival, supported Goldfrapp at the Royal Albert Hall, performed for Prince William and Kate Middleton, arranged and performed alternative love songs with City of London Sinfonia, and became a regular presenter on BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction.
