Young Composers Project: The Open Fund for Organisations
For:
The Young Composers Project Commission Musician and Songwriter Jack McNeill
The Young Composers Project (YCP) works with young musicians and composers from around the Midlands. Based at Birmingham Conservatoire, the scheme has worked with over 100 young young people inspiring them to create music without limitations and pushing boundaries in a supportive environment. Songwriter and musician Jack McNeill will be working with the YCP group to create a new work specifically created for them.
Jack McNeill is a clarinet, bass clarinet player and songwriter from Cumbria and now based in Birmingham. Jack McNeill sings and plays guitar in a duo with Charlie Heys and was a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards. His work has been called “A work of profound and mysterious beauty” by Folk Radio UK. The work will draw inspiration directly from the creative personalities of the young participants and will be based in the aural folk tradition using narrative and the folk music idiom.
Jack is also a successful solo performer and is a member of Ed Bennett’s DECIBEL and a freelance player for City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Birmingham Royal Ballet, and Orchestra of the Swan and was a Britten-Pears Young Artist between 2011 and 2015.
