Specialising in the performance of music by living composers and that of the 20th and 21st centuries, Psappha was formed in 1991 by its Artistic Director Tim Williams. The ensemble has an extensive and exceptionally varied repertoire of hundreds of works and a reputation for technical assurance and interpretive flair.
Psappha’s 2014/15 season focusses on: supporting emerging composers; performing and premiering new works; cross-arts collaboration; and digital development. The season includes a special concert, on 4th October, to celebrate the group’s patron Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ 8oth birthday, for which he has gifted Psappha a UK premiere. Psappha will perform a Words and Music series at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, designed to reach new audiences through cross-arts collaboration. Psappha will commission three composers to each write a new work inspired by the rich Burgess archive. The programmes also include Fennessy’s Music for the Pauses in a conversation between John Cage and Morton Feldman and Kurtag’s Scenes from a Novel.
