Real Fur is an emerging London trio formed in early 2010, consisting of Leo Duncan (Guitar & lead vocals), Matthew McGough (bass & vocals) and George Steptoe (drums & vocals). Their music is described as ‘calypso infused proto-punk with an afro-indie tropical-pop twist’. The band first gained notoriety in London for hosting underground gigs in everyday establishments, such as Post Offices, Inner City Farms and Laundrettes. These ‘Safari Funk’ nights provided new platforms to showcase their music as well as friends’ art and films. In May 2011 the band embarked on the first ever laundrette tour of the UK, performing in 7 functioning laundrettes across the UK. Over the course of 2011 the band released two digital singles, Animal and The Fool.
The financial support received from PRSF will allow the band to further develop their careers as the performance group Real Fur. The award will enable Real Fur to tour the UK performing to new audiences as well as paying for promotion and marketing to further increase the exposure and awareness of their music. The second Safari Funk Laundrette Tour is planned for early 2012.
