Sounds New is a Contemporary Music Festival which runs from the 4th – 15th May 2012 and in this year of the Olympics and Para Olympics, we will draw attention to the extraordinary work of British composers and performers.  British composers command extraordinary respect around the world, and their music generates debate, interest, excitement and inspiration to others.  Some have changed perceptions to rhythm, some to complex textures, others to design and structure, some to the influence of philosophies, some embrace the ‘sensationalist avant-garde’ and some respect tradition but from a truly current viewpoint.  This is true in so called ‘classical’ music as well as in jazz.  Over twelve days, Sounds New aims to give a glimpse into the depth and breadth of the music that our native composers create.   Audiences will be exposed to a range of ‘serious’ new music that can take them to new worlds.  They will explore music that can engage, inform and inspire.  Programming is done to ensure that all the music presented is vibrant, exciting, bold and colourful, and that the magic of music is kept paramount.  The grant from PRS will help us enormously with this project.
