Sage Gateshead: Talent Development Fund 2017

For:

Sage Gateshead Talent Development Programme

Sage Gateshead is an international music centre situated on the banks of the river Tyne. They are home to Royal Northern Sinfonia, Folkworks, an extensive creative learning programme and a diverse concert and festival programme. In 2015/16 Sage Gateshead delivered 488 concerts and 10 festivals attracting over 300,000 people and delivered music learning at the venue and in communities across the North East to more than 16,000 participants.

In 2016/17 Sage Gateshead were able to support Frederick Viner, Anna Appleby, Hannah James and Zoe Gilby & Matt Anderson as composers in residence with each of our four youth ensembles in classical, jazz, folk and vocal music. They also supported Martin Longstaff and Ditte Elly and many more to take their music to the next level by providing space, performance opportunities, musicians and expertise as well as opening our Music Education Centre free of charge to local music creators as part of Sage Summer Studio.

In the coming year, through PRS Foundation’s Talent Development Partner funding, Sage Gateshead will appoint 4 more composers in residence, support 6 ‘Associate Artists’ to reach the next stage of their careers and host Sage Summer Studio so that local music creators can access our exceptional facilities to develop new work or prepare for a recording or performance.
