Talent Development Partner 2017: Opera North

For:

Opera North Talent Development Programme

Opera North Projects works with a range of early career composers, musicians and creative artists. From sound installations to song cycles, from electro-acoustic composition to classical, jazz and folk, we pride ourselves on having an open and accessible idea of what ‘opera’ is and what it can be.

Being a talent development partner with PRS Foundation, we can move from one-off projects to a sustained programme, offering mentoring, artist residencies, collaborations with other organisations and of course performance opportunities. As one of the UK’s leading opera companies we have access to a fantastic range of skills, expertise and resources. But we are also curious – we want to find new music and new musicians, people who will bring new ideas that challenge us, and people who want to use our resources in ways we never expected.

In our region there are some pioneering arts organisations who routinely work with artists form diverse backgrounds, particularly BAME artists. We hope that South Asian Arts UK and Gem Arts for example, will help us find, nurture and develop artists from south Asian backgrounds. While our partnership with the PRS Foundation is focused on the local and regional, we believe the results and the impact we can make will have national and international resonance.
