Find out more by visiting:
Laura Bowler is a composer, opera director, mezzo-soprano and conductor living and working in London and Manchester. Her work is influenced by many composers, directors and artists ranging from Stephen Sondheim to Harrison Birtwistle, the paintings of Kandinsky to the theatre of Antonin Artaud. Laura is also the Founder and Artistic Director of Size Zero Opera, a company specialising in the creation and performance of contemporary opera with emerging opera creatives in exciting and challenging ways.
The funding will support the commission fees of Laura Bowler and Phil Venables in their creation of two works of intimate depicting the experience and consequence of rape through the victim’s eyes. The work is not aiming to shock but is, out of desperation, attempting to increase awareness and to encourage an honest and open dialogue around rape. The project is a collaboration with members of the charity, RapeCrisis, and will premiere in 2018 at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester.
