The Fidelio Trio will collaborate with composer Piers Hellawell and 2014 T S Eliot Prize poet Sinéad Morrissey on a new pageant of music and words to beguile lovers of the word with unspoken expression; and surprise lovers of the sound with spoken expression.

Created and performed by a team of leading practitioners from around these islands, the collaboration delivers reflections on a shared theme of ‘displacement’, interleaving spoken and unspoken discourse.  The artistic basis of this work lies with with Sinéad Morrissey’s own words about her Parallax collection: “Parallax (Astron.) Apparent displacement, or difference in the apparent position, of an object”.  Drawn to this as expression of the ‘displacements’ of the musicians and composer, leaving home to work from elsewhere, the new work will explore questions of links maintained across the modern diaspora: ‘apparent displacement’ since distances and spaces can also serve as enhancements.

With new poems by Sinéad Morrissey and new music for piano trio by Piers Hellawell, The Fidelio Trio with Sinéad Morrissey will go on tour during Spring and Summer 2016 in collaboration with seven inventive promoters: Cheltenham Music Festival, Vale of Glamorgan Festival, An Lanntair Concerts on Stornoway, Hugh Lane Gallery and Music in Kilkenny, Ireland, Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast (during Belfast Book Week) and University of Sheffield Concerts Series.
