The Vortex Jazz Club: Open Fund for Organisations

In time to mark the occasion of Windrush Day The Vortex Jazz Club presents a new body of work by composer and arranger Renell Shaw, in association with The Vortex Jazz Club/The Shape of Jazz to Come.

The pieces are inspired by the men, women and children, who latterly became known as the ‘Windrush Generation’. The music pays homage to the complex origins of the people. Their lives ‘away’. Their longings, loves, disappointments, and will to survive: Being at home but not home. The Vortex celebrate the contributions of this vibrant community to the cultural and social life of Britain. The rich diasporic musical traditions of the Caribbean finds contemporary expression in the new work, as well as new home in a new melting pot of bubbling creativity.
