At Sixes and Sevens - Wall2Wall Music’s Creative Weekends 2014

At Wall2Wall Music we begin all community music projects by commissioning musical starting points from our core creative team, which grow into new pieces. Based in Derry/Londonderry and coming out of the UK City of Culture 2013 we are looking for fresh ideas to help stimulate multiple new works to be composed with groups and communities during 2014.

To help us do that we are going to enlist a group of 54 young musicians and poets who came together in 2013 as the At Sixes and Sevens Ensemble. As part of a ground breaking project of the same name they contributed to one of the highlight programmes of the UK City of Culture. They devised a new work (Walls, Bricks and Bells) alongside a major commission by Mark Anthony Turnage and poet Paul Muldoon to mark the 400th anniversary of the unique cultural link between Derry/Londonderry and the City of London.

Having cut their teeth on such a major event we are going to work with them over two creative weekends to devise a wide range of new material that Wall2Wall Music can then bring as starting points to new projects in different settings for different and new audiences.

The creative weekends will include a performance and also provide a much needed focal point for these talented young musicians and poets to come together after the excitement of a city of culture programme and begin to shape some future creative activities for themselves.
