Julia Biel: Women Make Music

A self-taught singer and songwriter, with a sharp perspective on life and love, a voice as electrifying as it is hypnotic, and a fondness for pop song structures as much as for jazz harmony, Julia Biel inhabits distinctive musical territory combining the raw emotional power of her old-school-jazz-sounding vocal with backdrops that include elements of 1960s psychedelia, electronica-imbued acoustics, driving electric guitars and epic, cinematic arrangements.

Tipped as ‘the best British vocalist to emerge in an age’ by THE INDEPENDENT and turning heads with her performances wherever she goes, 2015 saw the release of Julia Biel’s highly anticipated and acclaimed second album, ‘Love Letters and Other Missiles’, and nominations for a MOBO Award and an Urban Music Award followed as well as a packed touring schedule taking her to worldwide audiences.

Fast forward to 2017 and a third album release is on the horizon. In Julia’s own words, “This new album marks a major milestone in my creative output. Recorded after the most busy touring period of my career so far, it’s been amazing to get that energy down for posterity and to get busy shaping the arrangements around these core recordings. I’m really excited about getting this album out into the world!”
