Nwando Ebizie: Women Make Music
Nwando Ebizie is an experimental performance artist, musician, producer, DJ and dancer from Nigeria via Oldham who has performed both in the UK and internationally (including London’s Royal Opera House, Southbank Centre, The Roundhouse, Oi Futuro Gallery via Rio de Janeiro, Chalet via Berlin, Baltais Fligelis Concert Hall via Latvia, Bonobo via Tokyo and Blok via Zurich). Her work eschews boundaries, but incorporates a multi-disciplinary practice grounded in musicality, rhythm, ritual performance art and physicalised theatre.
Through the company MAS Productions she has created the persona Lady Vendredi, an inter-dimensional blaxploitation popstar. With Artistic Director Jonathan Grieve, they have created ritualized gigs and performance art/theater hybrids performed at Latitude Festival, toured Italy and recently presented sold out shows at The Roundhouse. In 2015 she will self release Lady Vendredi’s debut EP The Passion of Lady Vendredi alongside a 3 week run of Lady Vendredi’s immersive art gig show at Soho Theatre. The EP features collaborations with Larry Tee, LV and Paul Love and was made whilst she received mentorship from Steve Reid Foundation trustees.
Lady Vendredi’s music is inspired by everything from Haitian Vodou rhythms to Giallo soundtracks and early electronic composers like Raymond Scott and Daphne Oram.
