Samuel Bordoli, commissioned by Tête à Tête

About the commission

Blending skateboarding, choral singing and the unique acoustic of skate parks, Tête à Tête and composer Samuel Bordoli team up with skaters and community choirs to make a real noise in London, Aberdeen and Glasgow.

“I am absolutely delighted to be part of the PRS for Music Foudation’s New Music Biennial. I am looking forward to collaborating on a new work with Tête à Tête and members of the skateboarding community which I hope will lead us all into thrilling and uncharted musical territory.” Samuel Bordoli

“We’re absolutely delighted to have been funded for this commission. While we’ve recently put so much into fostering the creativity of others, and when it’s increasingly challenging to make significant new work ourselves in these difficult times, it’s a great shot in the arm to have made it through the stiff competition for this prestigious scheme.” Tete a Tete

More about the composer

Samuel became the first composer to create a work for significant vertical and horizontal spaces when in 2012 his live music sculptures for the Monument and Tower Bridge were featured in the City of London Festival. Described by the Observer as “beautiful and ethereal”, these works have set a fascinating precedent for exploring unusual architecture and music. He recently completed the music and libretto for the chamber opera ‘Amerika’, based on the novel by Kafka, which was commissioned by Tête à Tête.

He has received many awards for his work including the Mendelssohn Scholarship. Summer 2013 will see the performance of his new and unprecedented live music sculpture specifically designed to explore the unique acoustics of St Paul’s Cathedral. The work will feature 27 musicians arranged throughout the space, including a number of multi-level triforium galleries and the famous whispering gallery.
