Neil in Derry-Londonderry

Since starting his residency in Derry-Londonderry for the UK City of Culture 2013 Neil Cowley has been busy making music and making friends.

Creative Choices – An Audience with Neil Cowley

One of Neil Cowley’s first engagements saw him give an inspirational talk on his journey through music to over eighty post primary school children at a Creative Choices event at the Nerve Centre. The subsequent feedback was hugely positive.

SYNC – Music Promise in the Community

Neil has become Musical Director for the city’s first youth music collaboration. He has been meeting and inspiring young people from all over the city. Some of the young people participating in these activities will be involved in Neil’s huge ‘Eighth Gate’ performance and collaboration.

Neil is also acting as mentor for one of the young people involved in a BBC documentary following 13 young musicians and their journeies through the Music Promise, as well as leading a piano master class for the most gifted young people.

Jazz Festival

The Neil Cowley Trio is performing at Nerve’s Centres Jazz Festival in May 2013. In the run up to this they will also be involved in several collaborative workshops with local bands/songwriters and ensemble groups. These collaborations will take place in front of an audience and be recorded live in 2-3hr intensive sessions.

Music City

The Neil Cowley Trio will be performing as part of Music City on 21st June 2013 at St Augustine’s Church. This promises to be a highlight of an incredible day of live music right across the city.
