Jerwood Arts partners on PRS Foundation’s Composers’ Fund

  • New partnership increases support to established composers at pivotal stages that are less than 10 years into their career
  • Next deadlines for applications will be 28 May and 2 November 2020

Today we announce a new partnership with Jerwood Arts, the leading independent funder dedicated to supporting UK artists, curators and producers, on our ground-breaking Composers’ Fund.

The Composers’ Fund supports the creative and professional development of talented composers with a strong track record and at pivotal stages in their career. Launched by PRS Foundation in 2016 the fund offers grants of up to £10,000 to support and enable composers to realise projects and ambitions that may not be possible through traditional commissioning models.

Since its launch the fund has supported some of the most exceptional composers in the UK today such as Charlotte Bray, Raymond Yiu and Gavin Higgins and 2019 alone saw 5 supported composers picking up awards at The Ivors Composer Awards.

This new partnership with Jerwood Arts will enable increased support to composers that meet the fund’s criteria and whose activities take place in the UK and who are less than 10 years into their career.

Previous recipients have received funds for projects such as recordings, the promotion and performance of existing works, international co-commissions and development, performer collaboration, residencies, sabbaticals or childcare costs and project or promotional support.

Both organisations recognise the impact the COVID-19 crisis is having on composer careers and as such will reflect this in the criteria and decision-making process.  They therefore expect to see more applications focusing on creative development and remote activities for the first deadline. It is encouraged that all applicants should take note of the restrictions on activities and must consider ongoing UK Government guidance.

The next deadline for applications is 28 May 2020 at 6pm and the second deadline of the year being 2 November 2020.

We are excited that Jerwood Arts are partnering with us on The Composers’ Fund.  Our shared ethos to support and develop those talented creators who are at pivotal moments in their career, is an exciting prospect.  This increased support will mean through the fund we can reach more talented music creators who have already established themselves, with larger levels of flexible support to take that next step in their careers.”

Lilli Geissendorfer, Director of Jerwood Arts said

We are delighted to be collaborating with PRS Foundation on their vital fund for composers and to be able to go live at this challenging time. While we have championed each other’s work over many years and have co-funded projects before, this marks an exciting new development in our relationship built on the strength of our shared ethos of open and inclusive funding for outstanding music creators.”
