Three talented composers Dobrinka Tabakova, Jasmin Kent Rodgman and Stef Conner receive PRS Foundation’s Composers’ Fund
- Composers receive grant support of up to £15,000 for project that develop creative and professional development of talented composers
PRS Foundation, the UK’s leading charitable funder of new music and talent development, announces today the latest talented composers to receive the ground-breaking Composers’ Fund are:
- Dobrinka Tabakova – Chamber work and Chamber Orchestral piece recording projects
- Jasmin Kent Rodgman – Time to create a long-form, experimental operatic work titled ‘How to fight and how to stop fighting’
- Stef Conner – Creation of a folk-influenced choral project titled ‘The Ripple Effect’
Composers’ Fund supported Jasmin Kent Rodgman said,
“Words can’t describe how crucial this support is. Not only does it allow me to take the time needed to ponder, be playful, explore and create a long-form, experimental operatic work but also ensures that said time is guaranteed to be at a slower and more sustainable pace. I can’t wait to see what I come up with alongside my brilliant collaborators Jude Christian and Elayce Ismail! It feels so exciting to know that this is how it’s all beginning – a healthy, supported, wholesome beginning!
“Receiving this support also feels particularly significant as we’re living at a time where the financial barriers to being a musician (across genres) are so high, and the UK arts & culture scene is equally as affected by the cost of living crisis as individual artists are. It feels important to highlight this, to take a moment to understand the context of this award, which makes me even more grateful to be receiving it and why PRS Foundation support is even more of a lifeline than it ever has been.”
Elizabeth Sills, Grants & Programmes Manager at PRS Foundation said.
“We’re delighted to announce today the latest talented composers to receive our Composers’ Fund, congratulations to Dobrinka Tabakova, Jasmin Kent Rodgman and Stef Conner for being selected for this targeted and timely support. These direct grants will support each composer to take a next step in their careers and build on what they have already achieved. We know this type of support remains incredibly vital to composers and I look forward to following the progress of each of the composers and their exciting new music projects.”
The Composers’ Fund supports the creative and professional development of talented composers with a strong track record and at pivotal stages in their career. Launched by PRS Foundation in 2016 the fund offers grants of up to £15,000 to support and enable composers to realise projects and ambitions that may not be possible through traditional commissioning models.
Since its launch the fund has supported projects such as recordings, the promotion and performance of existing works, international co-commissions and development, performer collaboration, residencies, sabbaticals or childcare costs and project or promotional support. Previous recipients of Composers Fund support include Errollyn Wallen, Julian Anderson, Dani Howard, Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Tansy Davies, Jessica Curry, Philip Venables, Shiva Feshareki and Gavin Higgins.
