Andy Scott, commissioned by Foden’s Brass Band

About the commission

‘A Child Like You’ depicts the real life story of a 17-year old Ugandian Asian who fled Uganda in 1972, under the brutal regime of Idi Amin, and who subsequently lived with the family of composer Andy Scott, via UK refugee camps.

Andy has composed music and lyrics that are powerful and thought-provoking, producing a 15-minute mini-opera that features soprano/narrator Anna-Clare Monk, harpist Lauren Scott, the world famous Foden’s Brass Band (with whom Andy is Composer in Residence) and four young musicians from Foden’s Youth Band who both play and narrate.

Andy Scott
Andy Scott integrates his composition work with various performance projects and education activities. Self taught as a composer, Andy’s distinctive compositional voice speaks with a unique and effective mix of jazz, world music and contemporary classical elements.

Andy Scott received a British Composer Award in 2006 for his double saxophone concerto ‘Dark Rain’. ‘Crossing Waves’, a work for solo harp, was premiered at Carnegie Hall NYC in 2010. ‘Three Letter Word’, commissioned by the Park Lane Group was premiered at the Southbank Centre London, whilst ‘Seven Dances’ and ‘No Looking Back’ featured on the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet Chandos CD Dances.

Andy is composer in residence with Foden’s Band, whose recording of his works ‘A World Within’ won the British Bandsman CD of the Year in 2010.
