Composer in the House: Stephen McNeff

The first composer to participate in the project was Stephen McNeff who took up his position with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in autumn 2005. As well as writing new works both for the orchestra and for the BSO’s new music ensemble, Kokoro, he was given access to extra rehearsals, the opportunity to try out ideas before the new works reach the concert hall and the chance to work intensively with individual players.

Stephen was also involved with the artistic life of the orchestra, gained insight into artistic decision making and programming, participated in the organisation’s education programme and helped devise ways to engage audiences with new music.

Stephen later became a Trustee of the PRS for Music Foundation – click the button to see who else is on our Board of Trustees.
