Guest of the Month February 2012: Lady Leshurr

Lady Leshurr is one of the acts taking to the road in this year’s MOBO Tour.

Bio….

Make no mistake about it, Melesha O’Garro is the complete package. It’s very possible that you’ve heard her feature on Tinie Tempah’s mixtape, ‘Sexy Beast Vol. 1’, or on the ‘Female Takeover’ remix of Tinchy Stryder’s ‘Game Over’. If you’ve seen her perform on stage or YouTube, you could remember her for being a consummate rap mimic, especially on her show-stopping take on Chris Brown and Busta Rhymes’ “Look at me Now”, which notched up over 80,000 views in one day on worldstarhiphop.com, and now has in excess of 500,000 YouTube views across the 3 different video versions. Or perhaps you’re aware of her unanimous reputation as ‘The Best Spitter in the UK’, and the industry buzz that’s building round her, with everyone from Mike Skinner to Nicki Minaj and Trey Songz heralding her as the ‘next big thing’, and the MD of Atlantic US flying her over to New York to discuss plans for her forthcoming album.

Inspired by the likes of Tinie Tempah, Wretch32 and Tinchy Stryder, she’s well aware of the possibilities the mainstream now holds for British urban artists. In addition to working hard on her debut album (due for release Spring 2012), she’s already developing her first lines of clothing and accessories, and getting her Gutter Strut Recordings label moving.

We asked Lady Leshurr what’s been on her stereo recently. She told us:

Lil Wayne – ‘Carter 4’
I love everything that Lil Wayne does and this album showcases his talent in so many ways. His lyrical delivery and approach to music keeps you entertained throughout the whole album whilst the odd cheeky humorous punchline and edgy metaphors have you’re brain on overload!

Big Sean – ‘Finally Famous’
I really have took a liking to Big Sean. He has his own style and you can hear his personality/character shine through when he raps on a song. Thoroughly enjoyed this album and is most definitely a must have.

Drake – ‘Thank Me Later’
I think this album is a classic and is a work of art considering it’s Drake’s first album. Down to the production and Drakes delivery it’s genius and has related concepts for an audience of any age range. He takes you on a journey through music whilst keeping you entertained.

SBTRKT – ‘SBTRKT’
I really like this album! I purchased as soon as I heard the male singer Sampa’s voice because I fell in love with it! It’s so unique and distinctive and I love when that’s evident. I also really like the production aswell, foes well with his and Jessie Ware’s sound.

The MOBO Tour promises to showcase the very best of the UK’s new Urban and R&B talent. We wondered how Lady Leshurr felt about heading out on the road with MOBO. She told us:

“Being a part of the MOBO’s is such an achievement to me as I’ve always wanted to just attend and watch but now I’m actually going to be performing! It’s unreal and I can’t wait. I’m looking forward to performing some new material meeting Shurrporters and networking with the other artists involved. I’m looking forward to seeing Maxsta and Cleo Sol perform! Maxsta is a great lyricist and Cleo is such a talented singer and both are great performers I can’t wait! The audience can expect The Three E’s (as I call it):
1. Energy
2. Excitement
3. Entertainment”

“I love performing so I have to make sure everyone is having a great time and interact with the audience to the best of my ability. I’ll also have CD’s and T-Shurrts to give away too!”
