Girls I Rate (GIR) was founded by songwriter to the stars (Beyoncé & Britney Spears) Carla Marie Williams in 2016. The movement pushes for equality & opportunity for women 16-30yrs in the music and entertainment industry. Girls I Rate Arts Academy host a number of events and programmes throughout the year tailored to develop educate and empower the future female.
GIR POP UP CLUB
The Pop Up Club is a space formed by young female creatives, who are part of the Girls I Rate Movement. The Pop Up Club is a safe space that gives women the opportunity to learn develop and encourage collaboration with other females. The club runs on a monthly bases and will have masterclasses hosted by industry experts who donate their time and resources to render education and career advice within various creative fields. The club night will showcase the freshest female talent in the UK.
#GET HEARD!
#GETHEARD A&R Listening Weekender! Since 2017 Girls I Rate have partnered with PRS for Music to address the gender imbalance within PRS for Music membership which is currently at 17%. Bringing the industry to the girls by providing young women the opportunity to showcase their original music to a panel of industry experts and A&R’s. #GETHEARD has had over 2000 demos submitted 80 demos listen to and 400 females attend events. This year we want to go bigger and better have partnered with PRS Foundation to award 2 applicants grants up to £10k.
SONGWRITING WEEKENDERS / MASTERCLASSES
Girls I Rate Founder Carla Marie Williams Hosts songwriting weekenders & masterclasses across the world for aspiring female songwriters 16-30yrs empowering and equipping them with key skills and expertise in songwriting. The club runs on a monthly bases and will have masterclasses hosted by industry experts who donate their time and resources to render education and career advice within various creative fields.
PRS Foundation’s grant support will help Girls I Rate (GIR) to reach more talented music creators through Pop-Up Club and other events, with attendees able to access funding tips and advice. In additional, two #GetHeard attendees will receive £5,000 Hitmaker fund bursaries and bespoke support from GIR and partners.
