Prelude is a partnership between Amazon MGM Studios and PRS Foundation. This programme is designed to address under-representation within the world of media composition by supporting talented music creators to build skills and networks within the sector to boost their creativity and careers.

Successful applicants will receive a £3000 grant with an additional travel bursary if they are based outside of London to attend workshops that are focussed across different areas of the music media industry, hosted by Amazon MGM Studios, PRS Foundation and the Prelude Ambassadors. Grantees will also receive mentoring from Prelude Ambassadors.

To be eligible for this award, you must:

• Have at least 2 years’ experience writing/composing music

• Be in need of financial and wrap-around support in order to make progress in media composition

• Demonstrate an ambition in music for media  (e.g. creators who would like to build a career in composing for short films, composing for production music libraries, attending workshops/seminars/classes in relation to media composition) 

• Be from a background which is currently under-represented within the world of media composition. Prelude is designed to address under-representation in various areas of DE&I, including but not limited to:

• Gender inequity (including supporting women and gender-diverse creators)
• Racial and cultural inequities
• Class and socio-economic inequities
• Under-representation and discrimination against LGBTQIA+ communities
• Ableism (including tackling barriers for disabled and neurodiverse creators)
• Geographic inequities (addressing under-representation of creators based in UK regions and nations outside London)

Music creators who are eligible under the above criteria.

Music creators will also need to be available to take on one to one mentoring with Prelude Ambassadors, attend Prelude workshop events and take on a writing to brief exercise, which they will receive direct feedback for. All this activity will take place between January – June 2026

Prelude is a programme that offers a £3,000 grant, with an additional travel bursary for those living outside of London.

Costs that you can apply for include (but are not limited to): creative time, childcare, equipment, and travel within the UK for meetings or training courses.

The programme is open in terms of what you can apply for as long as this relates to building a career in media composition in the UK. We cannot fund travel abroad through this programme.

How long is the programme?

The programme will run for 6 months. We will announce the results in November and then the Prelude activity will begin in January 2025 and run through to June.

What are the most common reasons applicants are unsuccessful?

Applicant selected will have made a strong case about their experience and how this relates to a career in media composition. We are looking for applicants who are serious about working in media composition.

Can I apply to extend opportunities for sync?

No, this programme is focused on composition for media.

Can I apply to Prelude and another scheme such as the Open Fund for Music Creators?

Yes you can, however, it is unlikely that you would be supported for both opportunities at the time, so we would recommend that you apply to the right scheme for you at the time that you are applying.
