Kerry Andrew

Kerry Andrew is a composer, performer and writer based in London. She specialises in experimental vocal music and music-theatre, choral music, folk, jazz, and community music. Hosted by live music venue 7 Live House in Zhengzhou, she will work with local musicians across all genres to create theatrical, storytelling-music which weaves together strands of both Western and Eastern folklore around the motif of the ‘trickster fox’, a shape-shifting creature which adapts to its environment.

I am hugely excited about being Zhengzhou’s Musician in Residence! I can’t wait to go and spend time with local musicians across the genres, soak up some Chinese folklore and art and watch traditional Yu Opera. I’ll be making theatrical, storytelling-music which weaves together lore about the trickster fox, a shape-shifting creature which adapts to its environment, in our two cultures. I am really keen to share existing songs and stories with city residents and develop new ones. I am very much looking forward to the adventure of working in a country utterly new to me!
