Imogen Heap releases new single about Hangzhou Residency

‘Xizi She Knows’

Imogen Heap, who took part in our Musicians in Residence – China scheme with a stay in Hangzhou, has released a new single written during her stay, and influenced by 24 hours in the life of her host city.

Creatively fuelled by the city’s history, culture and people, Imogen drew inspiration from school children, commuters, and the environment around her. Galvanising the the city’s residents and local media she embarked upon a 24 hour period of filming and recording, resulting in the beautiful song ‘Xizi She Knows’.

“The song reflects a life changing period in my life,” Imogen states, “and I’m hugely grateful to all involved for giving me the opportunity to let my creativity run wild about a whole city!”

Imogen will be returning to Hangzhou in April to continue her work, collaborating with local artists and media. She will also be writing a Mandarin version of ‘Xizi She Knows’ with poet Pang Wei.

‘Xizi She Knows’ has first been made available to Imogen’s loyal fanbase via her website (see link below), and will gain worldwide release via iTunes.

The full film of the 24 hour project will also be released a little later this year.
