Adam Laurence: Early Career Promoter Fund
Concise Description : Two events combining live performances, DJ sets, and theatrical production to challenge and immerse audiences, presenting artists in a uniquely immersive and theatrical format.
Bio: Backed by the Early Career Promoter Fund, Adam will produce two upcoming events as part of his ‘Hootenanny’ series. This format merges the raw energy of DIY music shows with stage production techniques lifted straight from experimental and fringe theatre. The setup depends on unconventional staging arrangements, scheduling set times outside the standard mould, and applying a highly detailed approach to shaping the physical space. Placing both emerging and established acts on a single bill allows these events to facilitate cross-pollination across different subcultures. Adam aims to expose audiences who typically align with a specific kind of music to unfamiliar work, creating a rhizome of independent scenes connected by shared creative sensibilities.
Previous acts on Adam’s past bills include Jazz Lambaux, a French duo combining hyperpop and folk sensibilities with bagpipes, electronic innovator Aya, multidisciplinary Texas-based troupe House of Kenzo, and experimental Dominican-American producer Kelman Duran. Supported by the PRS Early Promoter Fund, Adam is able to offer fair, guaranteed fees to more than 10 artists, matching the Musicians’ Union National Gig Rates. His funding application stated a clear desire to progress toward larger venues as an independent promoter, and the events produced through this financial support will achieve exactly that. Adam has allocated a budget for specialist mentoring from established industry professionals and will work with an accessibility consultant to implement inclusive practices. This funding allows him to meet his application’s core objective: advancing from his current level as a promoter to organising shows in larger spaces, with more exciting acts, and the freedom to world-build.
