Short Project Title: Songs From Revered Scorned Women – Song Cycle Launch
Project Description: ‘Songs From Revered Scorned Women’ is a song cycle in five movements for mezzo soprano and piano trio. In this work, each movement uniquely adopts the perspective of a woman drawn from history, mythology, or religion, who has served as the archetype for misogynistic treatment, or the establishment of patriarchal standards. This song cycle has been composed and recorded, and, with generous funding from PRS Open Fund for Music Creators, will be launched at two events in the UK.
Bio: Áine Mallon is a contemporary classical composer of choral, instrumental and theatrical music. Her music engages with the fundamental human experience of storytelling and has been described as “fresh and new” (- John Rutter CBE). Áine is an associate composer with the Contemporary Music Centre Ireland, and has works commissioned and performed across the UK and Ireland; with recent commissions from world class ensembles and festivals such as Irish Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir Ireland, the ORA Singers, Cheltenham Festival, Aldeburgh Festival and, New Music Dublin. Her work has been recorded by NMC Records and published by Stainer & Bell.
