AKS: POWER UP Music Creator
Short Bio: Meet AKS (pronounced “Ay-Kay-Ess”) the South London Hip-Hop artist gaining a reputation as one of the rising British lyricists to take note of. His unique blend of pairing thoughtful, introspective lyricism with soul-infused production has earned him support from outlets like EARMILK, HipHopDX, Okayplayer, and SoulCulture, and a co-sign from Roc Nation’s Young Guru. His 2016 EP, “Train of Thought”, earned him two nominations at the inaugural Unsigned Music Awards (Best Urban Act & Best Album/EP/Record), and firmly positioned him as one to watch. He’s continued form recently, returning with “Up & Up (Heavens Above)”, receiving radio support from DJ Semtex (Capital XTRA), Ellie Prohan (KISS), Jess Iszatt (BBC Introducing) and Chuck D (Public Enemy, PEPR). Singles like “Parity”, “Seasons Change”, and the powerful extension to his Wordplay Magazine #Novembars competition winning entry “Let Me Explain” followed, gaining him spins across BBC 1Xtra, BBC Radio 1, Vocalo Radio (Chicago), and Ministry of Sound’s “Made in UK” playlist. His 2024 collaboration “Whatever It Is”, alongside Jackson B and Tony Bones, continued that momentum. A jazz-laced boom-bap track, named Track of the Week by FreshOnTheNet and supported by Theo Johnson (BBC Introducing) and Ellie Prohan (KISS). A celebration of his inspirations, perseverance and creative synergy, the single draws on Golden-Era Hip-Hop influences and showcases AKS’ versatility and ability to unite sharp wordplay with rich musicality. With an upcoming project “As Plane as Day: Departures & Arrivals” en route, AKS continues to evolve his sound while remaining rooted in honesty, introspection, and craft.
