Alexandria Carr: POWER UP Industry Professionals
Social Inclusion & Talent Development champion within the music industry.
Alexandria is the Contemporary Music Programmer for the Southbank Centre, London and programmer at Cheltenham Jazz Festival. She is also the first black person to be elected to the board of the European Jazz Network, a membership organisation representing 200 festivals and music venues, where she advocates on social inclusion and diversity. Alex is also a trustee for the body representing British Folk music, Sound Roots, where she advises on talent development. Alex arrived in the music industry in 2020 by starting her own live music platform, Amplify Sounds, as a response to racist views placed on Black artists within her home city of Birmingham. Since then she has been a champion of Black, Brown & Female talent across the music industry. Prior to her current role at the Southbank centre Alex held the role as Jazz & Emerging Talent programme producer for Birmingham Symphony Hall, where she transformed a very ‘male, pale & stale’ programme into a vibrant reflection of UK talent.
Outside of programming & promoting Alex is also a radio broadcaster with specialist shows on Jazz FM and BBC WM.
