Concise Description: Nu Earth Groove are nights of G lobal Urban Jazz Funk alongside community discussions: one outdoor, un-ticketed community event and one indoor ticketed event.
Bio: With roots across Mauritius, Japan, India, Cuba and the UK, alya isha pioneers Nu Earth Groove —Global Urban bass-heavy Jazz Funk liberation music— a unique fusion of sounds from across the globe; taking the growing cultural interest in ancestral futurism and fusion music to another level; building inter-cultural musical communities which feed grassroots movement building. Launching Nu Earth Groove Nights, featuring a 10 piece band heavy on drums, bass and brass, fusing Asian and Afro traditions, in an intentional space designed to cultivate hope & action with local social orgs right there in the space for those inspired to get involved with. The night opens with community discussions on what a better world looks like and how we can build it, followed by a Nu Earth Soul set —meditative music to hold our grief and to release— and of course, a Nu Earth Groove set —high energy liberation music to cultivate joyful resilience and to make you move.
As a musician, alya isha’s own music has been spun on BBC Radio 6, BBC London Radio (in-studio), BBC Introducing, NTS, Radio Alhara, WorldwideFM, Radio One Mauritius, covered by Earmilk & Loud Women and she’s played Wilderness Festival, Colour Factory, Conway Hall and Peckham Levels amongst others.
