Amelia Clarkson: The Composers’ Fund
Project Title: Debut Orchestral Album
Bio: The Composers’ Fund supports the recording of Northern Irish composer Amelia Clarkson’s debut orchestral album with the Ulster Orchestra, to be released on Delphian Records in 2027.
The album brings together five orchestral works written across a two-year period, capturing a pivotal moment in Clarkson’s compositional voice. In 2025, Amelia made history as the youngest female composer commissioned by the Ulster Orchestra with The Rain Keeps Coming, and this recording marks a significant milestone in an ongoing artistic relationship.
The disc will also include I float between (2024), composed for the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, and Wings of Peace (2024), an orchestral reimagining of her ballet White Doves, commissioned by BBC Sounds for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
Clarkson’s music moves between shimmering orchestral textures, folk influences and an emotionally charged language shaped by her work in dance. Recorded with conductor Andrew Gourlay, the album will form the first recording of her work. Additional support is gratefully received from Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Vaughan Williams Foundation.
