Andy Scott : Open Fund for Music Creators

Andy Scott

Classical contemporary meets jazz, rock and ambient. Composition and improvisation meld and jostle for position, all of which is simply a reflection of 30+ years experience from Andy as a professional musician. With a true understanding and appreciation of groove, feel and style, Andy, as both saxophonist and composer, is at the coalface of the music business, earning his living writing to commission and gigging.

Mancunity – recording and filming

Funding from the PRS Foundation will enable this project to be filmed and recorded, producing a freely available video online. Mancunity is dedicated to the people of Manchester, their creativity, resilience and spirit, and which celebrates this great city. The 60-minute work was commissioned by Manchester Jazz Festival and given a world premiere that opened MJF in spectacular style in May 2019! Saxophonist and composer Andy Scott chose a diverse range of musicians to form the 12-piece ensemble that presented Mancunity. From MJF Hot House winner and rising star Jemma Freese to drum legend Dave Hassell, from the haunting and dynamic trumpet/electronics of Aaron Wood to the fragile beauty of the voice and flute playing of Caitlin Laing (a recent graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music Pop Music course). Andy wrote specifically for each musician, all of whom he had worked with in different musical settings, producing a work that celebrates both the past and the future, defiant in attitude and reflective of his own diverse musical upbringing.
