August Charles: Power Up Music Creator

August Charles

R&B/Soul

Born in Ndola, Zambia and raised throughout the UK, August grew up between two worlds that cannot be more different. Influenced by the music of Frank Ocean, Leon Bridges, Sampha and King Krule, he first started exploring his vocal abilities at the age of 12 as a member of a Doncaster high school choir.

August Charles’ musical vocabulary includes Soul, R&B, Indie Rock and Jazz. The melancholy of his voice transcends the listener into the serenity of exploration and emotional deep diving. More recently August Charles was listed as one of the upcoming artists to watch by BBC Introducing leading to features on BBC Radio 1 & Jazz FM.

His most recent single ‘Blessed’ is a reflection on a past time of struggle, frustration and disappointment. His soul-fuelled voice takes the listener on an effortless sound introspection, a story of release and recognition and marks a new beginning in the artist’s life. The song was featured on Earmilk & Dummy Mag, along with being added to Pharrell Williams’ ‘OTHERtone’ Podcast Playlist and featured in the Early Rising Playlist, curated by Haley Evans of Megahouse Music. The singer-songwriter was included in the Spotify Fresh Finds: Class of 2021 and is set to release new music in 2022, along with playing festivals like Tramlines, Live At Leeds & A Stones Throw throughout the summer.

“I’m honoured and grateful to be a recipient of the POWER UP FUND! New creations are just around the corner.” August Charles
